Bienal ’21 Fotografia do Porto [Exhibitions]
Auroville is an intentional community founded in 1968 in Southeast India by Mira Alfassa aka ‘The Mother’, India’s first female guru. Envisioned together with French architect Roger Anger as a futuristic city for 50,000 inhabitants, it houses 4,484 people from 67 nationalities today.
The Auroville Project examines how relationships between humans and nature, an ecological and sustainable lifestyle, spirituality and political ideals of self-development, common ownership and collective living are enacted and re-imagined within the community today.
The exhibition brings together videos, photographs, sculptures, archive materials and artifacts, living plants from Auroville, a geodesic structure, and artworks by friends and former students.
